This Kind of Hero Chapter 54

For the First Time in My Life

It was an extremely chaotic brawl.

On the day of Holy Light Elves’ spring market, a prince and a few elders of the Moonlight Elves were provoking them–furthermore, the one provoking them was that Moonlight Elf prince, Linka. As Linka spoke, the elders following behind him secretly shook their heads and thought, Your Majesty, sending His Highness Prince Linka on a diplomatic mission to the Sacred Highlands was likely a mistake from the very beginning.

However, Prince Linka was the youngest and most beloved son of the current Moonlight Elf King. He was most suitable. . . for becoming a hostage.

When they had discussed the matter, everyone had agreed that since they were the ones requesting aid from the Holy Light Elves, they first had to let the other side know of their sincerity. Whether it was the Moonlight Elf elders or the Moonlight Elf King, their prejudice against the Holy Light Elves weren’t as strong as that of the Moonlight Elves below them. After all, they spoke out of their own interests. For the Tree of Life’s wellbeing, occasionally giving way to the Holy Light Elves was nothing.

They pondered for quite a while, attempting to find methods of letting the Holy Light Elves see their sincerity without actually giving them any benefits. In the end, the elders reached a conclusion and the Moonlight Elf King did as well.

A hostage. They would choose a rather weak, but important member of the elven royal family to be a hostage.

The elders thought of a candidate, but were not bold enough to say anything. After all, it was well known that this prince was doted upon by their king. If he were to become a hostage and was injured by those barbaric Holy Light Elves, then. . . .

However, the Moonlight Elf King let out a long sigh. “Let Linka go.”

His expression was indifferent; it was not that of a father’s, but rather a ruler’s. “As a prince, he has enjoyed many luxuries. Now is the time for him to make some contributions.”

Like this, Prince Linka took to the road. However, he had been treated too well while growing up and so didn’t even notice what identity he held on this diplomatic mission to the Holy Light Elves; he put on airs for the entire journey. The elders also didn’t want to create any unnecessary problems so they never clearly explained things to him.

If he learned that he wasn’t here to play, but rather to serve as a hostage, this prince would not just suddenly develop a spirit of sacrificing himself for the masses. They’d be lucky if he didn’t throw a tantrum that overturned heaven and earth. _(:зゝ∠)_

Along the way, the elders coaxed Prince Linka towards the Sacred Highlands with kind and gentle words. Originally, they should’ve been able to relax the moment they had finally seen Linka to their destination. However, he then started to make trouble in the other party’s spring market.

–No. Truthfully, the Moonlight Elf Elders didn’t think their prince had said anything cruel. The crowd of Holy Light Elves present at the spring market were all lower class elves. As elves of higher standing, why should they be respectful and humble to this elven rabble? Furthermore, His Highness the Prince wasn’t wrong; it was truly disgusting for a crowd of Holy Light Elves to be surrounding a human like they were in heat.

If it wasn’t because they had something to request of the Holy Light Elves, they likely would’ve just turned around and left.

Because of this, the Moonlight Elf prince spoke carelessly and the elders were unable to stop him in time, which led to the current battle.

However, no one expected a human to make the first move.

Xu Jun’s fist, late by and carrying two years worth of hatred, smashed into Prince Linka’s face and broke his nose.

Along with his fist arrived a string of vulgar swears, “Get the f*ck out! You stupid f*ck!”

The Moonlight Elf elders, who had always proclaimed themselves as elegant, were in an uproar. They blankly stared at this human who had popped out of nowhere. Only when their prince began screaming from the beating he was receiving, did the elders manage to react.

“–H-h-how, how dare you, human!”

The elders entered the fray to save their prince–after all, he was currently an important hostage they needed to hand over! Who knows what this ignorant human might do to him? However, as they entered the battle, the surrounding Holy Light Elves also poured into the fight. Originally, the Moonlight Elf elders thought that they were coming in to help them catch this human, only to find that the  Holy Light Elves’ maws were aimed towards them. . . did the Holy Light Elves actually become intimate with the humans?!

Although Prince Linka dared to offend the Holy Light Elves by calling them Bonobos, the elders were aware of their own Tree of Life’s situation so they did not dare to say such things!

The Moonlight Elf elders were powerful and fierce, but because they did not dare to let loose, they gradually began to lose ground.

After a while, the Holy Light Elves’ spring market guards also came over, surrounded them, and began beating up the Moonlight Elf envoys.

After another while, two masked humans also joined the fight. . . don’t think that just because you’re covering your faces, we can’t tell you people are from the Bright God Church!

After. . . yet another while, a young Moonlight Colt also joined the fray, stamping and kicking its hooves. It was clearly just an herbivorous magical beast, yet it stepped on Prince Linka’s face multiple times amidst the chaos. Many people began to question just how powerful the current herbivorous magical beasts were. . . .

Prince Linka’s nose was broken; tears and snot dripped down his face. He wasn’t very strong to begin with, after all. The main reason why the Moonlight Elf King liked him was because he was good-looking and a good talker. In times like this when he needed to use his fists, he was completely useless.

During the melee, the Moonlight Elf Elders were unable to care for him. He was like a rag being trampled underfoot, rolling this way and that. He wailed at first, but fainted soon after.

Xu Jun ferociously kicked his rear twice. In this sort of disorderly brawl, Xu Jun had also suffered a small wound. A Moonlight Elf Elder had smashed a hole through his breastplate. “How refreshing!”

Demon King Rozenke witnessed the battle from within Xu Jun’s body. Xu Jun was incensed. When he faced this elven prince, his emotions became unstable. These feelings ran extremely deep; they were the kind of feelings that wouldn’t calm after simply a day or two. It felt like Xu Jun had been holding back his breath, but as he slammed his fist into this prince’s face and cursed at him with some rather coarse language, that breath was finally released.

In the past, Rozenke would have frowned at Xu Jun’s actions. After all, whether he was Prince Ryan or the Demon King, he had never sworn, nor fought in large brawls. Yet, he said nothing. Xu Jun was a silly, careless and greedy fellow who was talented at causing bankruptcy. He attracted other people’s affection; he even attracted the Demon King’s affection. He was like sunlight, able to banish any darkness. He was a young man who was always smiling.

But in the moment that he saw this prince, his heart contained another emotion besides just anger. . . it was a sort of resentment towards his own powerlessness.

Rozenke wasn’t interested in what Xu Jun had experienced in the past.

He simply summoned the Ice Lord with his soul and passed down an order,  “Put a soul curse on this elven prince.”

The Ice Lord: “. . . Your Majesty?”

After His Majesty suddenly gave this strange order, he stopped to think a bit more, and added on, “En, make it one that’s rather difficult to detect. We don’t want the Moonlight Elves to suspect Xu Jun.”

The Ice Lord was extremely confused: are you serious, Your Majesty?!

Has Brave Xu Jun hexed you?!

Still, despite his words, the Ice Lord still. . . performed his duty without complaint and cast a soul curse on Prince Linka. Additionally, because of the knot in his heart, he was more ruthless than usual.

This elven prince would probably waste away soon. . . .

When Holy Light Elf Queen Ellie finally heard the news and came rushing over with a large entourage of elders and knights, the Moonlight Elf’s prince, Linka, was on his last breath, appearing as if he were already dead. The other elders were also in desperate straits–since they held back at the beginning, they never got the opportunity to fully let loose their full strength. Furthermore, why the hell were there so many humans popping up! And they were all so dirty! Instead of fighting a proper and fair battle, they kept using underhanded tactics! What’s up with throwing sleeping spells at your enemy in the middle of a fight!

Who would’ve thought–a quality of life spell used to help people have a restful sleep could be used like this?!

Almost dozing off in the middle of a battle–can you understand how terrifying that is?!

Furthermore, because they were constantly worried about their own Tree of Life, they hadn’t had a good night’s rest on their way here and were currently in a poor mental state.

In the end, the drowsy Moonlight Elf elders were thrown into a carriage to be brought back, surrounded by a crowd of loathful Holy Light Elves. The Moonlight Elf elders could barely stay awake, but refused to allow themselves to sleep. They wanted to get up to find Prince Linka. A fellow who appeared to be a Holy Light Elf knight also threw Prince Linka onto the carriage while stating, “He’s still alive.”

Prince Linka landed face first, his nose hitting the floor. He let out a pitiful sob. The Moonlight Elf elder most adept at healing wounds wanted to treat the prince, but was stopped by that elven knight. “Esteemed elder, this is the Sacred Highlands. In order to avoid misunderstandings, please refrain from using magic.”

What kind of misunderstanding could he cause? The Moonlight Elf elder lowered his head with grief and indignation.

The Holy Light Elves were the same as they were two thousand years prior. They were just as cold, heartless, and unreasonable as before. Can we really hope that they will come heal our, the Moonlight Elves’, Tree of Life?

In this moment, all the Moonlight Elf elders who were still lucid felt despair. They huddled together and shook; truly, this world was cruel.

Meanwhile, Xu Jun, the actual perpetrator of this incident was–given a completely different treatment compared to the Moonlight Elves.

After the brawl was over, Xu Jun calmed down quite a bit and felt his actions were a bit too overbearing–although the Moonlight Elves had insulted these Holy Light Elves first, Xu Jun was still an outsider no matter how you looked at it. Not to mention that Daeniste and Nar had also wordlessly followed him into battle. The two had even covered their faces with cloth. . . what’s the use?! You’re fooling no one but yourselves! What’s the point of covering your faces if you’re still going to use Holy Light spells?!

He recalled back to when he had been playing the game, only to discover that whenever he acted impulsively, things generally ended tragically. For example, what he had done just now. For all he knew, he might’ve caused trouble for the Holy Light Elves and Daeniste. Riding upon Mantou–who knows where he’d come from–his heart was filled with unease. “Sorry, I. . .”

Queen Ellie looked back at Xu Jun in surprise. “Why are you apologizing?”

“You are our great hero! You did well, beating up those Moonlight Elves! I’d always wanted to find a chance to fight with them!”

The author has something to say:

Brave Junjun: Good! The Holy Light Elves really are my good friends! Let’s fight against the Moonlight Elves together ~\(≧▽≦)/~

Demon King Zeze (expressionless): . . . Holy Light Elves, back off. The weather’s getting colder now, let’s make the Moonlight Elves go bankrupt. [1]

The Ice Lord: Hello? Are you there, Abyss Lord? I can’t stand this anymore, can you replace me?
