This Kind of Hero Chapter 53

Beat Him to Death!

In Xu Jun’s original world, bonobos were an endangered species, but became known due to their *beep* ability being comparable to the poodle-like dolphins. However, in the world of the Continent of God’s Blessing, they were a mid-tier magic beast that could become beastmen. Their  ability to *beep* was even stronger than the ones Xu Jun knew of back in modern society. They were the only race that Xu Jun didn’t want to get involved with.

“I’d rather stay with the demon race’s evil spirits than approach a bonobo,” he explained to Prince Ryan while suppressing his anger. “That race is truly. . .”

However, someone had actually dared use this kind of method to disgust the Holy Light Elves?!

Although this crowd of young Holy Light Elves were a bit impetuous, and liked to randomly ship couples, the Holy Light Elves were Xu Jun’s good friends!

Someone actually dared to insult his friends?!

Just wait for Yours Truly to screw you over!

Prince Ryan remained silent, perhaps because he didn’t quite understand the true nature of the bonobos. . . forget it, for the sake of his integrity, it’s better not to understand. _(:зゝ∠)_

Xu Jun rolled up his sleeves, preparing to charge into the crowd and start mocking people. What he didn’t know, however, was that “Prince Ryan” was actually pondering as such: how amazing were these bonobos for Xu Jun to group them together with the likes of evil spirits?

One must know that evil spirits were the lowest tier of demons. They were beings that had yet to form a spiritual consciousness, could only perform menial labor, and couldn’t even wear clothes because of the slime dripping off them, a slime which couldn’t even be washed off. Evil spirits were formed from the misfortune birthed in Hell and given a humanoid form. Every year, they would come out in droves, causing many people in the outside world to think that all demons looked like them.

Not even the Demon King Rozenke could sincerely say that he cared much about the evil spirits, nor that he treated low level demons and high level demons equally.

Therefore, he asked. . . “what exactly is a bonobo?”

After seeing who was speaking, Xu Jun, who was already filled with anger, became further incensed. He was raring to go for an enjoyable fight, until he heard “Prince Ryan’s” innocent question.

His momentum faltered.

“P-probably something similar to poodles. . . can you not ask about it!”

And what are these poodles? A new species of magical beast? The Demon King was amazed at how much there was that he still didn’t understand!

Had he, perhaps, slept for too long? Had this continent undergone some mysterious change during his slumber?

No, that’s not right. It’s possible that these things had existed in the past, that the poodles and bonobos weren’t some newly emerged species. However, because he sat high up as the Demon King, he had never glanced down to notice them.

Speaking of which, it was strange. These kinds of rumors and gossip occurred no matter the era, but he had never paid attention to them. He had found it quite tasteless that people would waste their time paying attention to such things. However, now that he was here within Xu Jun, his views had changed. Xu Jun wasn’t someone in a lofty position, but rather a human, a normal human, and a likable fellow. However, as long as he was the one talking, even if it was complete nonsense, Rozenke would still find it interesting.

It’s just that this Brave either infuriated him or made Rozenke like him even more. . ._(:зゝ∠)_

Xu Jun could no longer muster up any anger and instead began questioning if he had been a bad influence to the pure Prince Ryan. Look! After being together for a while, Prince Ryan had already learned to gamble; furthermore, Prince Ryan had heard him swearing multiple times already. Now. . . even the gateway to immoral acts was about to open!

Truly, what a sinful man he was!

During this delay, the Holy Light Elves had turned into the majority of the people looking for a fight. A wave of youthful Holy Light Elves turned to face the one who had just insulted them. Suddenly, the young lady, Anna, put down the Brave and Demon King doujin with a “pa.” “Moonlight Elves?”

Indeed, they were Moonlight Elves. Besides the pretty boy who had just spoken, there were three to five older fellows who were possibly elders. Each of them had their own guards, which made for quite a number of people. Enough, in fact, to put them on equal footing with these Holy Light Elves in terms of strength. The Moonlight Elves and the Holy Light Elves were both fair-skinned with pointed ears, but the Moonlight Elves possessed a more petite figure. For example, the Moonlight Elf pretty boy who spoke was around the same height as Anna, despite being an adult male.

Even their faces differed, with the Moonlight Elves having softer and prettier faces, while the Holy Light Elves’ were more full of heroic spirit.

They were like the sun and moon.

Of course, this only referred to their appearances.

Xu Jun was friends with the Holy Light Elves, but this was not the case with the Moonlight Elves. To be honest, if there was a race that he hated in this world, then even the bonobos would only place second, as he only wanted to avoid that immoral race. As for the Moonlight Elves, he sincerely abhorred them.

Especially this Moonlight Elf prince who spoke such disgusting and arrogant words.

That’s right, someone like him was actually a prince.

Back when he had just started playing as the Brave class in the game, he had come across a low-level map of the mid-south region of the continent. Besides the novice area, there were five to six other small villages and one to two small, human cities here. This place was close to the old home of the Moonlight Elves, the Jadeite Forest. The towns contained some half elves and humans. These half elves generally had nothing to do with the Moonlight Elves, but there were some who were related to the Wood Elves or Water Elves. They had a good relationship with humans and didn’t possess a nasty attitude of looking down on others. Their own races had already scattered and they could not join the large Wood Elf or Water Elf tribes; after all, since they were of mixed blood, half elves held a low status in the elven race.

Because the nobles’ novice area was in an eastern city of the Golden Flag Empire. and the priests’ novice area was in a branch of the Bright God Church, these two places were mostly full of humans. Therefore, although Xu Jun knew that the races of this world were heavily divided, he had never really seen any obvious signs of it.

While he was accepting quests in a few nearby villages as a brave, he heard that the son of a neighboring village’s chief had married a beautiful half elf of Moonlight Elf descent. At the time, everyone had simply thought that the young lad had good luck with women. A few older uncle NPCs had even cracked a couple dirty jokes in the tavern. Since Xu Jun needed to turn in a quest at said neighboring village anyways, he also went along to take a look. In that village, there weren’t many restrictions regarding weddings, so anyone could come to spectate. Xu Jun had only managed to catch that the bride had pointed, slender ears and tender, green eyes. She was quite different from an ordinary half elf.

By then, the wedding ceremony was already halfway done. Xu Jun instinctively felt that the situation wasn’t as simple as it seemed. However, before he could even react, An arrow shot towards them from the village’s entrance, directly exploding the bridegroom’s head.

Xu Jun was stunned while the normal villagers around him wailed nonstop. The bride couldn’t seem to breathe and nearly passed out. When Xu Jun looked back, he saw a pureblooded, handsome, and ferocious male Moonlight Elf.

The elf drove his horse over, trampling over a few villagers who couldn’t dodge in time. His whip swung, wrapping around the stunned bride, who was crying without a sound. “To actually marry a lowly human. . . are you trying to insult His Highness Prince Linka?”

The Moonlight Elf bride was clearly not some half elf with mixed blood. However, for some reason, she didn’t seem to have the ability to resist. “He doesn’t want me! We already annulled our marriage contract!”

She began to struggle uncontrollably, angering the elven knight who had come to abduct her. His whip once again flung downwards, not to hit the bride, but rather to carve up the poor bridegroom’s corpse into chunks of flesh.

The bride let out a shrill scream before fainting.

At the time, Xu Jun had been quite low-levelled and could do nothing but watch as the joyous occasion turned into one of mourning. Since he was an outsider, he had been standing in a corner to watch the wedding. When disaster struck, he couldn’t even squeeze his way to the middle. He could only watch as the elf knight came and went, leaving behind a corpse mutilated beyond recognition and a crowd of villagers who were either crying, injured from being trampled, or were related to the village chief’s family.

Why were the Moonlight Elves so arrogant? Because to them, ordinary humans were not much different from livestock.

Xu Jun was quite clear about the nature of Gale dad’s games. They didn’t care about what their player’s felt. They wouldn’t give elves adorable roles just because most players naively expected elves to be pure and lovely. What Xu Jun was seeing, was normal.

However, Xu Jun couldn’t restrain his anger. Everyone in this world seemed so real that he couldn’t treat it as just a game.

He rushed out of the crowd, demanding a duel with the elven knight, but the Moonlight Elf simply pinned him to the ground with a single arrow from afar. He had to be treated for over ten days before recovering.

During those ten or so days, the villagers all stayed far away from him. Perhaps they had not found Xu Jun’s actions to be brave, but rather seeking trouble. “We finally managed to send that person off. What will we do if he turns back around?”

Xu Jun could only purse his lips without speaking a word. For the first time, he thought that the “brave” class didn’t match its description of being a glorious profession that people had high expectations of.

Especially when it was the brave class on the hardest difficulty _(:зゝ∠)_

However, the curtain had yet to close on this tragedy caused by the two lovers’ difference in background and status.

Later on, he found an opportunity to visit the Moonlight Elves’ Jadeite Forest. By then, he was already level forty or fifty, about the same strength as a rank eight elven knight, and was able to enter the Jadeite Forest as a guest. At the periphery, he saw some statue-like “things.” They appeared to be made of crystal and almost seemed alive. One of those “statues” was quite familiar. After some consideration, it seemed to be the poor bride who had been taken away.

Xu Jun looked towards the Moonlight Elf guide. The Moonlight Elf unconcernedly told him, “That? It’s a pillar of shaming created from the soul of a traitor to my race.”

After the poor bride had been brought back, she had been treated as a “traitor” and had her soul sealed within a pillar of shaming.

She would never rest in peace.

Afterwards, when Xu Jun met the Moonlight Elves’ Prince Linka, he was unable to swallow down his anger. However, he couldn’t afford to make too much of a scene. All he could do was cover the prince up with a sack and give him a fierce beating.

And now, it was that very same bastard prince who had come to the Sacred Highlands and had even mentioned something about bonobos.

–Tsk.

The author has something to say:

For the gamer Xu Jun, it was the Moonlight Elf that angered him.

However, for the Brave Xu Jun, he had wanted to duel the Moonlight Elf, but the other villagers’ obstruction and aversive attitude had caused him suffering.

The tragedy had already occurred. For the common folk, it was wisest for them to try and prevent any further damage. They could not afford to make the situation worse.

The Brave Xu Jun could only agree with them; his youthful ideals and zealousness were less important.

As for the gamer Xu Jun in this world, if he hadn’t had a qualified senior to guide him, he would have likely become dispirited and embarked on the path the Brave Xu Jun had already tread.

This world needed heroes, but this world needed more than just heroes. _(:зゝ∠)_

(Haiya, unknowingly, I had suddenly started talking about general thoughts on life)
