This Kind of Hero Chapter 58

His Majesty the Sun God

Prince Linka had his own confidant who had followed him as his own, personal, royal guard.

Had Xu Jun looked carefully, he would have found this fellow’s face quite hateful. This was the same Moonlight Elf Knight who had killed the groom and stolen the bride back then.

Compared to Prince Linka, Xu Jun actually had a deeper impression of the knight since Xu Jun knew what he looked like while he had only seen Prince Linka once from afar. After all, during Xu Jun’s past trip to the Jadeite Forest, his standing had not been high, as he was not yet an experienced Brave, so the royal family had not personally received him. Of course, Prince Linka, who despised the lowly and despicable humans, made sure to stay far away.

Perhaps he believed he was already doing a great act of kindness in not sending someone to teach this human a lesson for daring to enter the Jadeite Forest and sullying the Moonlight Elves’ holy land.

But how could the noble Moonlight Elves let these base humans have an easy time?

As such, he had ordered his royal guard to set up a few hurdles for Xu Jun. For instance, lifting up a panel of Xu Jun’s roof in the dead of night and tossing in a ball of ice, and not just any ice, but one rich with the ice element. Those with even a slightly weaker resistance to magic would be frozen into a popsicle. However, this Brave was inexplicably gifted. Clearly he was not that strong, yet he did not freeze; rather, the royal guard, Linmi, had nearly been forced to stay behind.

How can a human be this strong? –Nefarious! Truly nefarious! As expected of contemptible humans! Thus, Prince Linka had pulled back. Although he could have mobilized a great number of the Moonlight Elf Royal Guards to obstruct the human, his brothers and sisters would have been able to use his actions against him. He had not feared his blathering siblings, but nonetheless, he had to guard against them.

At the time, Xu Jun had only known that the Moonlight Elves had tried attacking him in the night, but seeing that it was a night attack and not a night ♂ assault, he had not taken it very seriously. After all, there were plenty of Moonlight Elves who found him to be an eyesore. There was no need for him to fall out with the Moonlight Elves over a failed ambush.

Had he been more stubborn in his pursuit, perhaps he would have been able to pull off the mask of that royal guard named Linmi and recognize him.

Then, Xu Jun would have recognized this person to be the one who had clashed with him right after he had left the novice area. The one who had let him understand this world’s cruelty for the first time. It was a cruelty, one which instilled a hatred for the world, that one had to face when playing as a Brave on the hardest difficulty.

New grudges and old grievances all surged into his heart at once.

It was a pity that Prince Lina’s most trusted royal guard, Linmi, had only been slightly weaker than Xu Jun back then. He was as slippery as a loach during his escape, which made it difficult for Xu Jun to catch him.

Back then, Linmi had not recognized Xu Jun. He had no recollection of this young human, whom he had once pinned to the ground with an arrow. To him, the Xu Jun who had just stepped out into the world was a nobody, no, not even a person.

In anger or glee, humans might squish an insect, but would they bother remembering said insect?

To Linmi, Xu Jun was on the same level as an insect.

No one, whether it be him, Prince Linka, or anyone in the world, could have imagined that the once weak Brave, who would get soundly beaten up by a group of ten Kobolds, would now be even stronger than a Moonlight Elf Elder.

–Oh, even though said elder was the warm-hearted Elder Dute who was known for being weak_(:зゝ∠)_

However, it was not just Linmi who could no longer remember Xu Jun, as Xu Jun himself also could no longer recall what Linmi looked like.

The former was constantly bullying and humiliating those who were weaker than himself, while the latter’s opponent had become the world’s strongest Demon King.

Both his standing and strength had thoroughly transformed.

This was the reason why Xu Jun had not noticed Linmi, despite him being amongst the Moonlight Elves’ envoy.

Xu Jun’s attention had been focused on the ringleader of the bride-stealing, groom-killing incident, Prince Linka. Most of his anger had also been vented out on this guy. On the other hand, Linmi was left relatively unharmed, although someone had kicked a couple times in the rear during the chaos. He suspected that the one who kicked him was neither human nor elf, since the marks on his butt were clearly hoofprints. He had managed to protect his face, yet it brought him no good, but instead a disaster.

Prince Linka’s face could no longer be fixed. He overheard Elder Dute talking to the other elders in secret. “His nose. . . is crooked and can’t be straightened. His missing tooth also refuses to grow back–who knows what that human did?”

Despite blaming the human, everyone here actually suspected the culprit was the Holy Light Elves. However, they were afraid of incurring their wrath, and so pushed this pot onto the only human who had been involved, Xu Jun.

Currently, they did not dare to speak ill of the Holy Light Elves.

After all, the only person who dared to besmirch them, Prince Linka. . . well, just look at what has become of his face. . . .

“Humans (Holy Light Elves) nowadays are way too wicked!” An elder spoke with grief and indignation.

“I agree! They target people’s faces when attacking and even afflict others with curses that prevent wounds from completely healing–it’s too vicious! Shame on them!”

“. . . not only do they hit peoples’ faces, they even kick their butts! Only a real bastard would do this!”

The elders’ sorrows were not meant for their pitiful prince, but rather themselves!

Whoever cast the curse had not stopped at Prince Linka since all of their wounds were extremely hard to treat. Even after applying the Moon God’s Blessings Elixir, which was quite the powerful elixir, they could only slightly alleviate the pain of their injuries. Th-th-this was definitely a great conspiracy concocted by those Holy Light Elves!

Far off in the distance, the one who had cast the Soul Corroding Curse, which prevented wounds from healing completely, Ice Lord Weize, let out a massive sneeze.

After some consideration, he found this situation quite familiar. Usually it was because the faraway Abyss Lord was speaking badly of him.

Why couldn’t Abyss, this fellow, learn to speak more pleasantly like Flame or Fear?

He had raised the Abyss Lord from a very young age and had watched this little demon with a head full of polluted water grow up into a great Lord with enough polluted water in his brain for fish to swim in. The Ice Lord reminisced back to when the Abyss Lord had just been born. Amidst the pitch black curtain of night, he had lifted up that small, infant-shaped fellow. The Abyss Lord had been such a clever and cute child.

The Moonlight Elf Elders lamented at how the moral character of the Holy Light Elves had degenerated. Yet, for some reason, Prince Linka’s royal guard, Linmi, was greatly alarmed: according to what the elders had said. . . His Highness the Prince’s face can no longer be fixed?

He remembered the gaze that Prince Linka had looked at him with for the past two days. A chill penetrated through half his heart while cold sweat emerged on his back, its stickiness made him uneasy.

His Highness the Prince’s face had been ruined, yet as his royal guard, he had barely a scratch. Right now, Prince Linka looked like he wanted to peel off Linmi’s skin.

If nothing could be done about His Highness’ face. . . .

Linmi shivered. There was nothing he could do. Everyone knew he was Linka’s confidant, so he couldn’t even defect to someone else and take shelter. Before, Prince Linka’s violent temper and willfulness had been his umbrella of protection. Everyone knew that his master was someone who could not be provoked, so who dared to pick a fight with him? However, he was now terrified as his master was about to turn those flames of anger onto him.

As a royal guard who had been a villain’s accomplice for so many years, he could only make himself more useful. Make himself more useful so that if his master recognizes his value, then he could live for just a bit longer.

Prince Linka, his face covered by gloom, passed down an order to Linmi. Originally, he had been delicate and pretty, but he was now as ugly as a swamp witch. The current him seemed to emit a cold light from his eyes every time he thought about those death-deserving Holy Light Elves and that human Brave. No, it wasn’t just these people who deserved death. Everyone here who had seen his current appearance, all of them, deserved to die.

His voice, deeper than it has ever been before, exploded beside Linmi’s ear like the whisperings of a demon.

“Go investigate the Holy Light Elves’ Tree of Life. If something went wrong with our Tree of Life, theirs shouldn’t be fine either.”

As Prince Linka spoke, his lips pulled into a malicious smile. However, Linmi remained frozen. “Your Highness. . .”

His Highness, who had always sheltered him as his protective umbrella, patted his shoulders. “Go.”

–This mission.

–It was asking him to die.

Linmi’s teeth chattered and his vision went dark. His breath, which he felt was freezing to ice, puffed out from his nose.

    ……

“I. . . still want to give it a try.” Xu Jun said to Ellie as he pulled out a tube of Divine Spirit Elixir. Just now, he had dripped a drop of diluted elixir onto Queen Ellie’s glabella. The young woman’s pallid face instantly glowed with youthfulness. Although this tube of Divine Spirit Elixir had been diluted by a hundred times, its effect was still stronger than that of the best cosmetic facial masks.

At first, Ellie had rejected him. “Giving this elixir for me to use. . . you probably shouldn’t, right?” However, after seeing the results, she could no longer keep refusing. She was unable to go against her own conscience and say that she didn’t wish to look beautiful!

In the end, not only did Ellie use the Divine Spirit Elixir that Xu Jun had offered, returning back to the beautiful appearance she had in her youth, the elders also freeloaded some. Perhaps it was because of their old age, but the effects were even more apparent. Even the elderly Alchemist Elder, who already had laugh lines, went from an aged, solemn, square-shaped face to a handsome and slightly cute, baby face.

Who the hell knows how a baby face had turned into a square face.

Originally, the elders had not believed in the effectiveness of Xu Jun’s Divine Spirit Elixir, not because they did not trust Xu Jun’s character, but because of the Divine Spirit Elixir’s immense fame. Furthermore, according to Xu Jun, he had found the elixir in the Sun God Temple at the bottom of the ocean, and so they had no idea how long it had been down there. It was more than likely that tens of thousands of years had already passed, and elixirs deteriorated over time.

Even if the elixirs were stored in amethyst bottles, they would expire after a thousand years.

Despite this, Xu Jun fished out a bottle of Divine Spirit Elixir and shook it back and forth. “Don’t worry. I had noticed back then that this elixir bottle was made from amethyst mixed in with the highest-grade mithril. I think there were also some words written on the table? Something like ‘best by date: 99,999 years?”

All the Holy Light Elves present: “. . . Oh.”

Their trust in Xu Jun left them unable to doubt the Brave’s words, so they quickly accepted everything that Xu Jun said.

Although this was the case. . . it was said that when His Majesty the Sun God had fallen, he had been the only one in the Sun God Temple! Then the one who had written ‘best by date: 99,999 years’ was. . . ?

Meow, meow, meow? Your Majesty, was this what you had been doing moments before your death?

Author has something to say:

His Majesty the Sun God: No, this wasn’t the only thing I had done in the moments before my death.

— I also wrote the best by dates for everything in my inheritance! How could I only write one for the Divine Spirit Elixirs? In the case where I manage to be reborn in the future, I can drop by the temple and take away everything that hasn’t expired!

Brave Xu Jun: No, no, no, there no need for you to take them away. This righteous Brave will help you accomplish this task, so excuse me for being impolite as I loot you clean~\(≧▽≦)/~
