This Kind of Hero Chapter 60

Prince Ryan

The high-leveled Holy Light Elves all believed the Moonlight Elves’ conspiracy to have been exposed. The awkward and strange attitude the Moonlight Elves had after their ambassadors had arrived at the Sacred Highlands seemed to finally make sense.

Since the Moonlight Elves’ Tree of Life was doomed, they had come to the Holy Light Elves’ home to create mischief, even at the cost of their dignity. This explanation seemed logical and also seemed to match the facts and reality. With the Holy Light Elves possessing hard, physical evidence, not even the silver-tongued Moonlight Elves were able to refute them.

In regards to this, Prince Linka, who had finally been released from the demonic grip of the deathly fig, laughed mirthlessly like a madman. Meanwhile, Elder Dute and the others could only force out a smile; their mood was currently quite complicated. As elders of the Moonlight Elf race, they had cared for their country and their people. They had even acknowledged the Moonlight Elf King’s request to “maintain a low profile on your way there. It’s fine to even humbly beg the Holy Light Elves’ young queen to save our Tree of Life.” Who could have imagined that Prince Linka would ruin everything.

As Moonlight Elves, was there anyone amongst them who wasn’t proud? But why was it that they could restrain themselves? Was it not because, for elves, their Tree of Life was much too important?

Don’t even bother mentioning that elves could still reproduce sexually without the Tree of Life–was that even the same? How could elves born from sexual reproduction possibly possess elemental powers as pure as those born from the Tree of Life?!

Originally, Elder Dute and the rest had deeply cared for their Tree of Life and had stressed their minds out for it. However, now, they could no longer bring up those feelings of concern for their country and people that they once had. _(:зゝ∠)_

After all, they were in a life or death crisis right now. One careless mistake and these reckless and boorish Holy Light Elves might take their lives. Before worrying about their Tree of Life, they should first worry about their own old lives.

They shed tears as they recounted to the Holy Light Elves’ young Queen Ellie of their purpose in coming here–of course they had come to ask the Holy Light Elves to save their Tree of Life! What else would they be here for? Although, now that they knew that even the Holy Light Elves’ Tree of Life was already half-dead. . . their last ray of hope had also disappeared.

What a pity it was, however, that the Holy Light Elves’ brains worked differently from the Moonlight Elves’. No wonder the Moonlight Elves constantly conflicted with the Holy Light Elves.

After all, their explanation, which had been sincere in their eyes, had won neither the Holy Light Elves’ sympathy nor pity. These scoundrels even looked towards Dute and the others as if they were morons:

“–Who in the world would even believe you? Elder Dute, stop trying to deceive others and yourself. Our two races have been enemies for ages. Would it not be your first reaction to plunder my race’s Tree of Life when yours falls to danger?”

Elder Dute saw the confidence etched into Queen Ellie’s face and found himself unable to utter a single word. He was in total despair.

So this was how the Holy Light Elves thought! So this was what they were thinking of!

–Our Tree of Life has rotted so let’s go take someone else’s. . . wasn’t this actually the Holy Light Elves’ original plan!

Suddenly, Elder Dute and his group felt glad that the Holy Light Elves learned of the Moonlight Elves’ Tree of Life also being corrupted by the dark element.

Otherwise, it was likely that the two races would fight an unstoppable war, with massive casualties on both sides, and the Moonlight Elves wouldn’t even know what had incited it. . . .

. . . . . .

As for these Moonlight Elves, who had dared to threaten the Holy Light Elves’ Tree of Life, the Holy Light Elf elders and their queen had differing opinions. They conducted multiple fierce debates on the matter. On one side were elders like the Alchemist Elder, who were a bit extreme, and wanted to sacrifice these Moonlight Elves. After all, perhaps after seeing the despicable Moonlight Elves dying, their Tree of Life would rejoice and come alive again (. . . ). However, others, like the Spirit Beast Elder, who were a bit more kindhearted, advocated to send the Moonlight Elves back home. Of course, it was not to be done for free. The Moonlight Elves should be ransomed, for a relatively low price of well water from the Moonlight Well, and have their Moonlight Elf King come exchange for them personally.

As for these meetings, Xu Jun was not allowed to participate. After all, it was someone else’s internal affairs. All he knew of the situation was that whenever these elders encountered matters related to the Moonlight Elves, blood would rush to their heads and they would become exuberant. They had almost completely forgotten about their Tree of Life being in imminent danger.

Rather, it was Xu Jun, as a Brave, whose head was filled with thoughts of the Tree of Life_(:зゝ∠)_

Theoretically, as a group, Braves needed to maintain neutrality. They could not side with any one race or power. Thus, Xu Jun wasn’t really interested in participating in the two races’ dispute.

However, it would be fine for him to help out a race he was friendly with under his own name.

For the sake of the Tree of Life, Xu Jun had made quite a few preparations. He wasn’t sure if the Divine Spirit Elixir he had on hand was effective or not. Although the Sun God had seemed quite confident in the best buy dates of these things, and they had found the Divine Spirit Elixir to be highly effective in slowing down aging and increasing one’s vitality when Queen Ellie and the others had tested it, how was it at expelling the dark element? –Oh, it seems that it had already been used for that purpose before.

“It was when I was fighting against Demon King Ro. . . Radishke1? I think that was his name. . . anyways, it was when I fought against him that I had also used the Divine Spirit Elixir. However, I don’t know if it was because of the elixir or the Demon King having a strong resistance, but the elixir became ineffective on the second use.” Xu Jun discussed with the reliable Prince Ryan, trying to come up with countermeasures.

The reliable ‘Prince Ryan’ thought, you can’t even remember Yours Truly’s name clearly, yet you still want to ask Yours Truly questions? He decisively chose not to condone the Brave’s behavior.

“Talk to me after you’ve fully memorized Demon King Rozenke’s name.” His Majesty the Demon King spoke with an icy chill in his voice.

Xu Jun: “. . . .”

Why did this feel like that time he had written his own name wrong in first grade and the teacher had punished him to write down his name a hundred times →_→

Almost as if they were joking, the two went back and forth as they repeated Rozenke’s name. As Xu Jun read aloud the Demon King’s name, his voice did not seethe out hatred from behind gritted teeth as a normal person’s would have, but rather read it as if it were an ordinary name. He spoke it as if it were the most common name in the world.

Furthermore, he even dared to joke about the Demon King’s name and called him “Radishke,” while also complaining about how a seven letter name was too long.

For some reason, His Majesty Demon King Rozenke felt his heart go soft. “It seems like you don’t fear him at all.”

Xu Jun fished out a bottle of Divine Spirit Elixir and a high-grade dark runestone he had ransacked from the Demon King’s treasury. He poured some of the elixir onto the slab of stone, which began sizzling like meat on a barbeque. The elixir rapidly corroded the runestone into a shapeless lump and cleansed it of the dark element. Feeling much more relieved, Xu Jun commented, “Oh, it seems like the Divine Spirit Elixir is quite effective for this kind of stuff.”

Then he responded to Rozenke, “Why should I fear him? A Brave should be fearless.”

He spoke quite carelessly, clearly not taking Rozenke’s words seriously. After all, he didn’t even know whose soul was currently residing in his body; whether it was Prince Ryan or Demon King Rozenke, although they were the same person, they were polar opposites of each other. Demon King Rozenke quieted down. He thought, even a mindless fellow like Xu Jun should have known how righteous Prince Ryan was and how evil and frightening Demon King Rozenke was.

Their carefree days were about to end.

Xu Jun was clueless towards this fact, Rozenke thought, but Xu Jun would soon find out and have to face reality: the Brave who killed the Demon King was also instrumental in reviving the Demon King. Would Xu Jun break down after taking such a severe blow? Would he curse me in a frenzy for deceiving him?

As Demon King Rozenke rolled these thoughts around in his head, an emotion, which seemed neither heavy nor painful, arose in his heart. Rather, it felt like he had been relieved of a burden.

Perhaps Xu Jun, inherently, was no different from other humans or perhaps he was. However, none of that mattered.

The Demon King will always obtain what he desires.

While Xu Jun was crazily performing experiments to confirm the Divine Spirit Elixir’s effectiveness, which was actually just him squandering the precious elixir, Daeniste was holed up in his treehouse. When all was said and done, he and Xu Jun were different. In a time when the Holy Light Elves were quite tense, it was not convenient for him to wander about. Furthermore, after the Moonlight Elves scouted around their Tree of Life, the Holy Light Elves became more guarded against outsiders. Although Daeniste was the Bright Holy Son, his status meant little to the Holy Light Elves. It was better for him to lay low.

However, as someone who Xu Jun had brought along, he was treated quite well. Not only could he eat the vegetables and fruits special to the elves for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Holy Light Elves also allowed him to keep in contact with the Bright God Church.

Daeniste could still communicate with his foster father, in other words, the pope of the Bright God Church.

How great a display of trust it was to allow a person of another race to send messages from within one’s own turf.

However, Daeniste roughly knew, this wasn’t just trust, but also that the Holy Light Elves were looking down on his strength. . . the Holy Light Elves had never really taken him seriously_(:зゝ∠)_

Just this morning, he had received from His Holiness the Pope. . . a messenger dove.

Although he called it a messenger dove, in truth it was a type of magic beast reared by the Bright God which could fly extremely quickly. Everyone, regardless of status, in the Bright God Church used these dove-like magic beasts instead of the faster mailing hawks because it gave off a more gentle impression. It was a way of telling the outside world of their love for peace and compassion for the common folk.

Essentially, it was a tactic to maintain their public image.

The white dove magic beast circled around before landing on Nar’s arm, its posture exactly like that of a hawk’s. After letting Nar take the letter off of it, it began to furiously peck at the fruit and vegetable meal on the dining table. Although it was a magic beast and normally ate meat, it could tell that the fruits, which let off a fresh and  sweet fragrance, were delicious.

It had flown the entire journey at high speeds. For the sake of delivering its message as soon as possible, it barely ate or drank anything on the way. Now the bird finally had the opportunity to fill up its stomach–it sure wasn’t easy working for those white-whiskered old men of the Bright God Church!

The deathly fig, Manqi, had never seen such a fast and fierce white dove. Curious, Manqi extended two viney feelers into the house which stood up by the dining table, peeking over it.

“Ga!” The white dove magic beast choked as it was almost scared to death.

Daeniste opened the envelope, thinking it was yet another letter urging him to quickly return home. He did want to return, but right now he could obtain first-hand information at the Sacred Highlands. Would the Holy Light Elves’ situation improve? What were the Moonlight Elves suddenly up to? Only after everything cleared up would he feel fine with leaving.

After all, he wasn’t here to tour around, but rather on a normal business trip.

With zero sense of responsibility, Daeniste thought as such. The Demon King was already dead, so naturally the Bright God Church would become a complete mess. Although he was the Holy Son and had a high standing, his standing did not bring him any benefits, but instead made him a target through which the elders could attack the pope. Therefore, it was better to take this chance to come out.

However, after reading the letter’s first two lines, his expression grew solemn.

“Return immediately. Traces of the dark element have been discovered in the Bright God Church’s sacred spring.”

“And send away Brave Xu Jun.”

[1] Joke being made here where Rozenke’s name in Chinese is 罗希恩克 (luo xi en ke), but Xu Jun calls him  萝卜希克 (luo bo xi ke), where 萝卜(luo bo) means radish.
