This Kind of Hero Chapter 66

Ice Lord

Although the youth tugging and pulling at Xu Jun’s thigh seemed a bit foolish, his expression and tone were quite sincere. He clearly held deep affection towards Xu Jun, this “biological father” of his.

Xu Jun’s heart was shattering into pieces.

Mantou stood outside the grove, dumbfounded as he watched said youth hugging onto Xu Jun’s thigh and calling him papa. Although he was a Moonlight Colt and was unfamiliar with human matters, wasn’t his master, Xu Jun. . . only just over twenty years old?

So how come Xu Jun has a son who looks like they’re fourteen or fifteen?

Mantou racked his brains and concluded that his understanding of humans was still lacking. Perhaps humans could have children when they were only a few years old?

Since Xu Jun never told Mantou about the matter with the Black Dragonhawk Queen, and had also never mentioned becoming a ‘cuckolded father,’1 Mantou wasn’t clear on how Xu Jun had suddenly become a “dad” at such a young age.

Xu Jun felt as if his body weighed a thousand catties. Mother’s chicken, this Icefrost Dragon youth’s had such great strength! He hollered out for Mantou. Although he knew escape was no longer possible, he still held out a thread of hope in the form of Mantou–Mantou, quickly come over and fly me away!

He called out for Mantou twice, yet Mantou appeared distracted. The Icefrost Dragon youth hugging onto him sniffled, “Papa, are you going to leave me behind again?”

Xu Jun felt like crying, but the tears wouldn’t come out. “Aiyo, I’m not your dad. . . “

He looked towards Mantou, only to discover that this unfilial brat, whose elbows faced outwards2, was looking at him with such an accusing gaze that it seemed almost tangible. Mantou curtly said, “You’re actually trying to abandon your son? Xu Jun, does your conscience not hurt?”

And so, like such, he missed his last chance to escape. Behind him, the male unicorn appeared and gently slapped Mantou’s rear.

“Long time no see, little Moonlight Colt.”

In the face of such gayness, Mantou subconsciously kicked his hind legs, only for someone to grab them.

A complete loss.

Mantou panicked. With a teary gaze, he looked towards Xu Jun. Xu Jun, however, didn’t want to talk to him and simply rolled his eyes at him.

They had no way out now.

The male unicorn embraced Mantou’s neck, appearing quite cheerful as he lazily said, “Xu Jun? That’s your name right? Lance has been looking for you for a very long long time, don’t you have anything to say?”

As he spoke, he caressed Mantou’s back. Mantou felt like he had nothing left to live for.

Xu Jun ignored him and simply lowered his head to look at the Icefrost Dragon youth. “. . . Forget it, put on your clothes first.”

Look at you, you’re not taking on your original form, yet you’re also refusing to wear clothes: are you trying to be a pervert?!

The male unicorn simply lightly smiled as he observed. This time, he had not committed any immoral acts upon seeing Mantou. Instead, he actually seemed rather amiable and courteous. However, this fellow was still someone with a previous record. He himself was also very clear on this point, and even distanced himself from Mantou somewhat. His movement was quite slight, but it obviously gave Mantou a great deal of relief. Mantou even gained the courage to lean against a nearby tree.

From a certain point of view, it seemed like Mantou had taken the initiative to lean closer to the male unicorn.

This was probably the way that high EQ, scheming men lured in others romantically.

Xu Jun, being the idiot man that he was, would never be able to learn such tricks in his lifetime. He fished out a mage’s robe made of silk and handed it to the young Icefrost Dragon, Lance, to wear. “Lance. . . right? Do you know how to wear clothes?”

Using his pretty, icy-blue eyes, Lance glanced at the mage’s robe. With a shake of his hand, he unfurled it and wrapped it, upside down, around himself. Xu Jun quickly took back the robe. “Bath, bath, why don’t you take a bath first. You’re covered in mud.”

The young Icefrost Dragon Lance looked at Xu Jun, his mouth curling into light smile. Xu Jun discovered that when this child smiled, he didn’t appear foolish at all. He also didn’t seem like an Icefrost Dragon, who were described as being perpetually frosty. Perhaps this child’s biological mother was something like a Fire Dragon?

Lance had already been covered in mud from the start, and now, after hanging onto Xu Jun’s thigh the entire way, he was even harder to look at. Using his fingers, which were probably the cleanest parts of his body, he held onto Xu Jun’s hand. “. . . Together.”

He sounded like a spoiled child.

Xu Jun patted him, “Let’s go.”

The male unicorn’s eyes widened slightly: he had never seen Lance act this obedient before!

One must know that he had a deep relation with the Icefrost Dragons. When Lance’s biological mother and father had passed away, he helped look after Lance for a while. Since the Icefrost Dragons dwelt in the far north, they had few relations or interactions with other races. This dragon race greatly differed greatly from those other races of dragons that commonly interacted with humans: they almost never took on human form. In the far north, there were no seasons. There were simply cold winters and not as cold winters. Icefrost Dragons simply remained in their original, draconic forms, oftentimes just slumbering in their caves, with each nap lasting months on end.

Lance had been returned by some unknown, kind-hearted person. At the time, Lance’s father had been about to pass away. He had received serious injuries during the battles for territory between the Icefrost Dragons and the ocean races. After Lance returned, his father was finally able to let out the breath he was holding, and returned to the Dragon God’s embrace. The Icefrost Dragons placed great importance on their young, so everyone took part in raising the orphaned Lance.

However, Lance never truly got close to any of them. Perhaps because he had been born outside, and the first person he saw had been a human, the immature Lance treated that human as his real father. Young children were the most stubborn of all. All Lance cared about was that human. It was to the point where he refused to accept his identity as an Icefrost Dragon and the reality of his mother and father both being dragons. The kind-hearted dragons, who were taking turns to care for him, had to take on their human forms before being able to even get close to him. However, Icefrost Dragons were not good at taking on a human form. Therefore, in the end, when the unicorns’ previous clan head, Jayce–a good friend of the Icefrost Dragons–came for a visit, they inquired if this previous clan head was willing to help them take care of a child.

The male unicorn, who was also the previous clan head of the unicorns, Jayce, was also quite intrigued by this young Icefrost Dragon who treated a human as his biological father and so helped raise this small Icefrost Dragon for a while.

He was quite clear on how much this young Icefrost Dragon missed his “papa.” This child almost never listened to other people’s words: whenever his elders wanted him to sleep in his dragon form, he refused to do so as if he believed they were trying to harm him. Everyday he practiced morphing into a human, forcing himself to take on the appearance of an adolescent youth even though he was only a few years of age. Although this appearance of his was quite good-looking, it also offered no protection against the cold.

No matter how they coaxed, he refused to listen. All the Icefrost Dragon Elders could do was request Jayce, the male unicorn, to take this bratty child south, lest this brat froze to death in the far north.

At the time, Jayce had just left Wilderness City. After he had received the Icefrost Dragon clan’s message for help, he rushed over in great haste, believing something major had happened, only to discover that these blockheads just wanted his help in sending away a child. . .

_(:зゝ∠)_At this time, three massive words appeared in his head: I’m cutting relations!

. . . Yet he still helped them in sending away the child.

He even helped them choose a good location. He could not help it, even though Lance was a brat, since he had practically watched him grow up. . . a brat who disliked dirtiness and refused to put on clothes after getting covered in blood from a hunt, yet also refusing to bathe since the water temperature was too high. Sometimes Jayce really just wanted to give this child a beating. . . but good people are always rewarded! Never could he have imagined that they would encounter Lance’s “papa” through pure coincidence! It was even more unimaginable that this supposed “papa” was that young Moonlight Colt’s owner!

Jayce’s spirits immediately rose~(≧▽≦)/~

However, this time, he decided to be more level-headed. Letting off the steady temperament of a mature man, he slowly and steadily began luring the young Moonlight Colt in. He couldn’t scare him like he had done last time.

But first, he needed to confirm the safety of their surroundings.

The male unicorn, Jayce, turned around for seemingly no reason. He faced towards an area where the trees were just slightly sparser. The forked branches above resembled an umbrella’s canopy, seemingly baring its fangs and claws. A dark shadow flashed by. Had it been another, they would never have noticed.

However, unicorns were exceptionally sensitive towards anything related to darkness. They didn’t use their eyes to see, but rather their perception of the elements.

This fellow is hidden quite well, Jayce observed. They made practically no noise, and possessed neither a living being’s breath nor heartbeat. It was highly likely to be an object without life.

The one controlling it must be extremely cautious. For them to put so much effort into this, it was clear that monitoring some Unicorn Beastman or Icefrost Dragon was not their goal. After all, neither of these races had any great dispute with demons, which meant that the only possibility left is. . . .

The male unicorn gazed heavily at Xu Jun’s back.

He recalled during his last meeting with this fellow, this fellow’s body had carried with it a dense residual aura of darkness. That residual aura wasn’t something that a normal high-level demon would possess. He must’ve fought with a greater demon that was at least at the level of a Lord.

Furthermore, with the recent rumors. . .

What kind of background did Lance’s “papa” have?

. . . . . .

After Demon King Rozenke returned to his own body, he left the Sacred Highlands along with his subordinate, the Ice Lord. Their next stop was the northern part of the Dark Abyss, which was also where their forces were currently battling against the humans’ allied forces.

It would not have been a bad plan for them to stop by the Jadeite Forest first to absorb the dark mana within it before returning, however, His Majesty the Demon King did not seem to care much for that smidgen of dark mana. He wanted to find the Abyssal Lord first to ask him a question, so Ice Lord Weize also stopped asking into it– he truly feared that His Majesty would end the conversation with something along the lines of “we’re not going because Xu Jun dislikes the Moonlight Elves.” He would have no choice then but to spit out a mouthful of old blood.

Although HIs Majesty appeared indifferent. . . this was probably the truth behind his decision.

Forget it, Weize thought. Let’s just continue deluding myself about His Majesty the Demon King. _(:зゝ∠)_

Today, the Ice Lord once again saw His Majesty the Demon King release another Bone Bird. The Bone Bird was not a living creature, but rather a product of alchemy. A Bone Bird’s eye socket did not contain an eyeball, but rather a image crystal capable of transmitting images. Demons often use Bone Birds for reconnaissance.

His Majesty the Demon King appeared graceful as he sat, his expression aloof, yet he somehow gave off the impression of who was gnashing and grounding their teeth. “. . . Actually already has a son. . . and there’s a unicorn. . . .”

. . . The Ice Lord refused to consider what His Majesty the Demon King was possibly looking at.

Author Has Something to Say:

Ice Lord: Your Majesty, I think you can go on ‘If You Are the One.’3 You’ll have many options there.

Demon King Zeze: . . . What are you trying to say?

Translator’s Niche:

[1] Same term as last chapter–Chinese is “喜当爹” (xǐ dāng diē) which is a term to describe a man who finally gets together with the woman of his dreams, only to discover that the woman is pregnant with someone else’s child and the man has no choice but to accept the child as their own.

[2]Someone whose elbows face outwards is someone who is selfless. It can also mean someone who is unreasonable (probably a bit both in this case). Comes from the fact that generally people’s elbows face inwards (people only caring for themselves: selfishness) and so someone whose elbows face outwards is thus selfless (cares about others).

[3] A Chinese dating game show.

Further note, decided to start referring to ‘dark element’ as ‘dark mana’ in certain cases where it might make a bit more sense rather than referring to it as element this and element that. Just more of a English translation thing. Of course this also applies for the other elements like light, fire, ice, etc.
